The process of immigration in Europe is much different than the United States. While the American immigration process is primarily based on how long one has been in the country, an EU immigrant can stay for three months before needing to apply for a visa. Additionally, visas are issued at borders and ports of entry rather than through an embassy or consulate. A tourist visa will allow people to stay for up to 90 days, while a student visa can be up to 365 days.
